What the Heck is 'Grounding'?
As it turns out, running your toes thru the sand can have health benefits, such as boosting your immunity, helping you to sleep more soundly, and reducing inflammation, all by reducing the pent-up electrical stress in your body.
Grounding, or earthing, is when we connect to the earth's electrical energy. And it doesn't have to be toes in the sand, it is literally any skin to earth connection.
This might explain why so many people say they are able to relax immediately when gardening or walking barefoot in the backyard. Our electrical bodies carry a positive charge, and the earth has a negative charge which seems to dispel excess positive energy that we tend to accumulate.
Still with me here?
There are even grounding mats you can buy if it's not always convenient to run around barefoot. Even though there's not much science to back up all of the benefits some people swear to get from the practice, it could be worth exploring.
